Kisspeptin-10 is the biologically active C-terminal decapeptide of kisspeptin (also called metastin), encoded by the KISS1 gene. Kisspeptin acts as the master regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, binding the KISS1R receptor (GPR54) to trigger pulsatile GnRH secretion, which in turn stimulates LH and FSH release. It is essential for puberty onset and reproductive function — loss-of-function mutations in KISS1R cause hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest active fragment, retaining full KISS1R binding activity while being the most feasible for therapeutic use. Clinical applications include fertility treatment and the diagnosis and management of hypogonadism.
